Welcome to Northern Japan Traditions.
My name is Yuji Shimoda, Ph.D., a folklorist, ethnomusicologist, and practitioner of Northern Tohoku’s festivals, folk performing arts, and classical martial traditions.
Through my daily life in Aomori, I explore and share the living cultural heritage of northern Japan—from vibrant local festivals to ancient samurai martial arts.
